Do not try to pigeonhole musician Chris Keenan into one style of music. Instead, think of his music as a recipe that includes a bit of rock, a dash of hip hop, a hint of indie and alternative with a pinch of easy listening. Keenan credits his musical diversity to moving a lot around the Southeast while growing up and being exposed to different types of music ranging from the boy band craze in Florida, to rap in Virginia all the way to the country twang in North Carolina and Alabama. The result is a mix of musical influences and sounds ranging from Edwin McCain and Rob Thomas to Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson.
The diversity of music can be found in both his cover songs as well as his originally written material. The lyrics to his original work represent a window into the artist’s mood. Although Keenan describes himself as a happy person most of the time, sometimes his music deals with issues that are personal and not so happy. “Some of my songs are so personal that I don’t even play them at my performances, but instead will be on my cd,” says Keenan. Any type of emotion one has been through, Keenan has captured in his lyrics. His most popular hit so far has been Perfect People, a song he co-wrote with a friend about being ok with not having it all together. Currently Keenan does not have an album out, but is working on a five song ep and has a few songs available for listening on his myspace account.
